del mesa carmel Gallery AT Del Mesa Carmel Current Exhibits January 8, 2026 February 28, 2026 Monica "Painting is more than an art for me. It is my sanctuary and takes me to a relaxing place where I find peace and joy." Monica Miranda About the Artist Origin: Sinaloa, Mexico Since childhood, I enjoyed coloring with pencils. I came to Marin County, California as a teenager and attended the College of Marin. In 1995, my husband and I relocated to the Monterey Peninsula. We fell in love with the Central Coast and have lived here ever since. Being surrounded by the natural beauty of both Marin and Monterey counties inspired me to look for ways to express nature's beauty with art. Once, when visiting San Francisco Exploratorium, the beautiful photographs I took inspired me to take up painting. I was able to pursue my dreams, thanks to a good friend who saw the potential and talent in me and encouraged me to take painting classes from local artists in Carmel, Marc Farina and Bryan Blood. They are master painters and amazing teachers who enriched my creativity and passion for art. Painting is more than art for me. It is my sanctuary and takes me to a relaxing place where I find peace and joy. • Waste Management Fines

< Back Waste Management Fines DMC Waste Management Fines for Recycling: A Costly and Unnecessary Burden Ginger Espinoza & Alyssa Ayon DMC Waste Management Fines for Recycling: A Costly and Unnecessary Burden In recent months, Waste Management practices have been subject to stringent regulations aimed at promoting proper recycling and reducing landfill waste. However, as community efforts intensify, so do the consequences for non-compliance, with fines becoming a focal point of debate. At DMC, the fines for improper recycling have reached an astonishing $150.09 per violation—a financial burden that many residents and organizations feel is excessive and, in some cases, unnecessary. Understanding Recycling "Contamination" The term "contamination" in the recycling world refers to the presence of non-recyclable items mixed in with recyclables. This can be as simple as a plastic bag, food residue, or even small amounts of non-recyclable packaging. The concept is rooted in the need to maintain the purity of recyclable materials to ensure they can be processed efficiently. However, it has created a complex situation where even minor, sometimes unavoidable, oversights can trigger fines. The $150.09 Fine: Breaking Down the Consequences FINE DATE AMOUNT REASON 2/23/2024 $150.09 CONTAMINATION 3/8/2024 $150.09 CONTAMINATION 3/22/2024 $150.09 CONTAMINATION 4/5/2024 $150.09 CONTAMINATION 5/24/2024 $150.09 CONTAMINATION 9/6/2024 $150.09 CONTAMINATION 10/18/2024 $150.09 CONTAMINATION 10/18/2024 $150.09 CONTAMINATION The DMC administration has been receiving a $150.09 fine each time a contaminated recycling bin has been found by Waste Management. We need to make everyone aware that these penalties need to stop, and everyone should take their part in helping to recycle properly. We thank you in advance for doing everything you can to help DMC avoid unnessary violations in the future. Previous Next

  • 2024-2025 Landscape Project

< Back 2024-2025 Landscape Project Tim Stoltzfus Oct 27, 2024 Learn about the Landscape Renovation Approach Grounds Manager, Tim Stoltfuz and Landscape Designer, Dianna Lee are implementing to beautify DMC. "Operation Beautification" Goals Ramon helping a bird back to health To revitalize Del Mesa’s landscaping in a timely, cost-effective manner Why? To restore and showcase Del Mesa’s inherent beauty How? By leveraging Rana Plan Principles and Del Mesa’s existing staff, resources Priorities? Safety, fire-resistance, drought tolerance, deer resistance, water conservation, defensible space requirements, reduced ongoing maintenance Above-ground perspectives showcasing the progress of the landscape project in its early stages Greening the Future: Transforming Our Landscape to Be Sustainable and Fire-Resilient As communities across California feel the pressure of water conservation needs, wildfire prevention, and the need for sustainable living, landscaping is more than aesthetics—it’s essential. Embracing this shift, we’re transforming traditional landscaping into an environmentally-friendly design that supports California’s climate while meeting its urgent conservation goals. This shift isn’t just about beauty; it's about resilience, resourcefulness, and respect for our environment. Our goal is simple: craft a landscape that not only looks stunning but also conserves water, restores native flora, and meets California’s strict fire safety standards. Here’s how we’re taking bold steps to make this happen. From Conventional to Conservation-Driven The first stage involves assessing our current landscaping and replacing dying or diseased plants and lawns with species that align with environmental best practices. With sustainability at the core of every decision, our team aims to repurpose existing plants whenever possible . This approach limits waste and reduces the need for new resources, embodying a truly conservation-focused redesign. We’re introducing planting zones that prioritize drought-tolerant, native, pollinator-friendly, and fire-resistant species —ideal choices that will thrive in California's climate. These plants bring natural beauty while significantly reducing the need for constant watering and upkeep. Our community will enjoy vibrant and resilient green spaces that attract essential pollinators like bees and butterflies. Smart Irrigation for Long-Term Water Savings Our efforts extend below ground with a conversion to drip irrigation, a smart system designed to water plants directly at the roots. Unlike traditional sprinklers, drip irrigation drastically cuts down on water loss due to evaporation and runoff, ensuring plants receive exactly what they need without wasting a precious drop. As part of this new approach, our team will undergo hands-on training in irrigation systems, plant installation, and maintenance. By building in-house expertise, we’ll maintain our beautiful, eco-friendly landscapes with confidence. The initial photo shows the front of the clubhouse before the landscaping project, while the second and third images depict the Discovery Garden following its installation. Embracing the Future with a Demonstration Garden and Beyond A highlight of our initiative is the Demonstration Garden, Clubhouse, and Entry Beds , which will showcase our new approach by the end of this year. This garden will be an inspiration point—a vibrant example of what sustainable landscaping looks like in action. Looking ahead to 2025, our focus will expand to the neighborhoods, beginning with Northridge Drive, and extending the project to the Clubhouse Courtyard, Redwood Room, and Pool House beds. By systematically working through these areas, we’re creating a green framework that will extend beauty and environmental mindfulness throughout the community. A Landscape for Generations to Come We’re thrilled to be a part of a movement that’s as beneficial as it is beautiful. With this project, we are reshaping our landscape to be sustainable, resilient, and self-sufficient. As we approach the end of this year and look toward the future, we invite our community to watch the transformation unfold and enjoy the greener, safer environment we’re creating—one plant at a time. Smart Savings and Green Transformation: Landscaping Project Thrives on Designer Discounts and Resourceful Budgeting In a bold move towards a sustainable and budget-friendly landscaping renovation, our community is benefiting from cost-saving strategies and smart sourcing. This forward-thinking approach not only maximizes our funds but also prioritizes eco-friendly practices. Here’s how our designer’s ingenuity and our team’s commitment are helping create a sustainable, beautiful landscape at a fraction of the cost. Generous Fee Reductions & Donated Expertise Our visionary designer is not only delivering top-tier landscaping expertise but also providing it at a deeply discounted rate. Instead of the standard $120 per hour, the designer is charging just $60 per hour, a reduction that will save our project thousands. What’s more, this fee includes a 50% donation of the designer’s hourly rate —a significant contribution that underscores their dedication to our sustainable mission. Wholesale Savings on Plants and Materials From plants to boulders, our landscape team is procuring materials at unbeatable wholesale prices. For example, 1-gallon plants are costing us only $5 instead of the usual $14 , a huge reduction that will enable us to expand our greenery at a fraction of the expense. Additionally, our team secured boulders at 65% below retail cost , ensuring that we can add beautiful, natural landscape features without stretching the budget. Our designer’s extensive industry connections have also secured a Redwood pergola at an astonishing price: $4,000 versus the original $10,000 budgeted . This iconic structure will serve as a focal point of our landscape, offering shade, beauty, and a durable, natural material at a price that supports the overall project scope. Cost-Effective Labor & Training Opportunities One of the key strategies in this project is to utilize our in-house DMC staff for labor, which not only reduces costs but also provides an excellent opportunity for staff to gain hands-on experience in landscape maintenance and irrigation. This experience will prove invaluable for the ongoing care of our new eco-friendly spaces, ensuring they stay as lush and vibrant as the day they’re completed. Innovative Irrigation Solutions for Long-Term Water Savings Aiming to conserve water while maintaining a healthy landscape, our team has chosen to modify and repair the existing irrigation system rather than replacing it entirely, transitioning it to a drip irrigation system . This adjustment delivers water directly to plant roots, reducing water waste while promoting deeper, more resilient plant growth. A Collaborative Effort in Sustainability and Savings Through smart budgeting, reduced fees, and savvy purchasing, our landscape transformation is shaping up beautifully while respecting every dollar. We’re thrilled to share these updates with the community, showcasing how sustainable design, resourceful planning, and collaborative efforts can produce both stunning results and lasting value. With each step of this project, we are moving toward a landscape that embodies resilience, beauty, and an unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship—making a greener, more affordable future possible for all.
