A Firewise Certificate is awarded by the National Fire Prevention Agency and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The Certificate shows that Del Mesa Carmel submitted a risk analysis and financial data indicating that community residents are informed and prepared in case of emergency evacuations.

Some insurance companies offer discounts to owners who send a copy of the Firewise Certificate.
